The
AREA J COUNCIL was organized in 1992, under the
auspices, direction and support of SCYA and YRUSC
(known as YRA’s). The geographic territory of the
council as defined by US SAILING, covers Southern
California, part of Nevada, all of Utah and
Arizona. The AREA J Council, is chartered as a non
profit 501-C3 in the State of California.
The functions and duties of the Council are as
follows:

Promoting and
supporting the UNITED STATES SAILING ASSOCIATION
programs that pertain to the sport of sailing in
AREA J.
-
Interfacing with
the Southern California YOUTH YACHT RACING
ASSOCIATION, and AREA J youth racing skippers
and crews.
-
Providing a forum
for discussion and planning for events and
championships relating to US SAILING and the
five Harbor Associations.
-
Exchanging
information of mutual interest between AREA J
YRA’s and the Harbor Associations.

Supporting
educational programs that are directed toward
training in sailing and the administration of
sailing championships within AREA J.
-
Distributing
limited financial support to skippers and crew,
who travel to US SAILING National Championships
within the United States, representing AREA J as
competitors. The
means of financial funds are derived from the
two YRA’s and the public sector.

Providing a tax
free 501-C3 vehicle for those interested in
contributing funds for the support of sailing in
Area J.
-
Providing trophies
and awards for the US SAILING Area J regional
Championships conducted by SCYA/YRUSC member
clubs, which then feed AREA J representatives as
competitors to the US SAILING Final National
Championships.
The AREA J COUNCIL is administered by a Director,
Assistant Director, Secretary, Treasurer, Directors
a Large and members representing YRA’s, Harbor
Associations, SCYYRA, US SAILING Championship
coordinators and US SAILING Committee delegates.
The AREA J Director and YRA Directors at Large are
delegates to the US SAILING Council of Sailing
Association (CSA). The AREA Director is also a
member of the CSA Executive Committee and a member
of the US SAILING Board of Directors.
