Commencing October 25, 2003, Asymmetrical Spinnakers
that conform to the specifications posted by PHRF Southern California
have been approved for regular spinnaker boats without an automatic penalty.
However, you must
notify San Diego PHRF in writing that you are planning to use asymmetricals and
provide the 'Asymmetrical Spinnaker' information required for your rating
certificate. Your sailmaker can help you with this.
Before using your new asymmetrical, you need a new PHRF San
Diego rating certificate which will have the 'Asymmetrical Spinnaker'
information filled out.
Note that per PHRF SoCal Class Rule 5.5.2, the sailmaker or boat owner must sign
each asymmetrical spinnaker indicating date of measurement, the length of the luff and leech, and girths, and his/her approval to all other
requirements.
For details on the new
asymmetrical spinnaker rules, please see the PHRF Southern Califorina web site
